Xinhuanet.com, Valletta, May 2 (Reporter Li Jia) At the invitation of Mr. Baldacchino, rector of Universitas Sancti Cyrilli of Malta, Chinese architectural designer and planner Cao Wei delivered a speech on "Urban Landscape Planning Control and Guidance" in Malta on the evening of the May 2. The speech was highly appreciated by Alfred Josef Baldacchino, Prince Grand Master of the Ordo Byzantinus Sancti Sepulchri (OBSS). People from all walks of life in Malta and some Italian scholars attended the event and exchanged views.
The speech started from the problems existing in cityscape planning, discussed in-depth the significance and core value of cityscape planning and design, and elaborated on the preparation methods, thoughts and main contents of cityscape planning. In his speech, Mr. Cao pointed out that the traditional form of urban planning can no longer achieve effective urban management and control, and it is even more difficult to solve the problem of disorderly development, while cityscape design can provide implementation ideas for urban planning and management. Cityscape design has become the most effective way to implement urban planning and management.
Mr. Cao won the Award for Design Excellence at the "Architettura Artistica: Tradizione e Modernità" International Design Competition co-organized by the Academy of Fine Arts of Lecce and the Italian FUCINA Cultural Foundation in 2008. In 2012, he was granted a Ph.D. Degree in Urban Planning by Universitas Sancti Cyrilli of Malta for his innovative ideas and methods to solve the aging problems and green environmental protection issues in the field of human settlements in China.
